There are several effective herbal remedies for a sore throat: the sooner any of them is applied, the faster you will clear up this painful condition and prevent infection spreading down into your lungs.
Tincture of Propolis - especially effective for any infections of the mouth, gums, or throat: add a few drops to a little warm water and gargle, tipping your head right back and keeping the Propolis in contact with your throat for as long as possible.  Repeat several times in the day.

Or try a spoonful of pure unblended honey mixed with the same amount of cider vinegar - you can buy this at any supermarket - swallow very slowly.

Made by bees during the honey making process, Propolis is a great remedy for sore throat.
Red Sage is the classic remedy for a sore throat: if you don't have any growing in your garden, fresh Sage from the supermarket will do beautifully, or even dried Sage from the spicerack as long as it's fresh enough to have preserved its distinctive aroma.  Infuse 3 or 4 fresh leaves (or a teaspoonful of the dried herb) in a small cup of boiling water for 10 minutes.  Add a dash of cider vinegar, and gargle when it is cool enough.  Repeat 3 or 4 times.  You can also make Thyme tea and gargle with it in the same way.

Steam inhalations with Tea Tree, Lavender or Eucalyptus essential oils will also help.
