Headaches
are probably the most common of all minor ailments. Indigestion,
eye strain, tiredness, grief, stress, liver upsets, menstrual problems,
or high blood pressure can all trigger that familiar unpleasant
throbbing around the temples.
If you keep getting headaches, you should seek professional advice and
investigation. If they are an occasional trial only, they will
probably fall into one of the following categories, and need to be
treated accordingly:
Headaches Due To Digestive Problems:
Try an ice cold compress made by adding 3 to 6 drops of Peppermint Oil to
a bowl of ice cold water: stir to disperse the oil, put a flannel on
top to soak up the oil, then squeeze out excess water. Apply to
the temples or nape of the neck - wherever the pain is worst - and lie
down with eyes closed for a little while. The essential oil of Lavender can also be helpful. Make a cold compress the same way as with Peppermint oil.
Headaches Caused By Eye Strain:
Aching sore eyes can result from straining them over difficult or
uncongenial work, or too much time spent staring at a computer screen
or TV set. Try any of the remedies above, or put cotton wool
soaked in Swedish Bitters or Witch Hazel, well diluted with water, on your eyes.
Tension Headaches:
Lime Flower or Rosemary Tea
will help relax the blood vessels in the head. To make it even
more effective, drink it while you soak your feet in the hottest
footbath you can stand and with an icy cloth applied to the nape of
your neck. Also try a warm bath with 4 or 5 drops of oil of Lavender or Rosemary.
Early Morning Headaches:
The kind you wake up with, which make you feel dull and
lethargic. Perhaps you slept with the windows closed - in which
case a brisk walk in some fresh air
should clear your head. If you keep getting morning headaches,
you may have low blood sugar caused by a high intake of refined
carbohydrates and sugar. Fatigue and lack of sleep can give you
the same dull ache. Drink hot Lime Flower tea. Or, try any of the remedies above.
Natural Headache And Migraine Remedies:
Acupressure For Headaches And Migraines:
Acupressure, an alternative to acupuncture that does not involve
needles, can also be effective in treating headaches and
migraines. See the acupressure for headaches section for details.
