Juice Fasting: What It Does:
Fasting is described as the complete abstinence from food - which actually means water only.  However, most authorities on the subject now agree that juice fasting is of greater value than only water as a therapeutic tool.  By abstaining from food, the digestive system can be rested and the body can concentrate on cleansing and rejuvenating the entire system.
We are only as healthy as each individual cell in our body.  If they are suffocated by waste products, then oxygen supplies drop, cell functions diminish and by extension, organ functions diminish also.  Extended periods of stress, lack of exercise, over-eating and toxic bowel conditions decreases liver, kidney and digestive function.  Cells then suffer from nutrient depletion and toxic accumulations, which prevent proper oxygenation. Juice fasting reverses all of this.
Juice Fasting: How It Works:
Once digestion has stopped, the body can spend all day working on spring cleaning every cell.  The juices are largely absorbed directly from the stomach, so that little activity is called for by the pancreas and intestines.  The vitamins, minerals and enzymes in juices assist the cleansing process.  Raw juices add enzymes to our storehouse and they are used to regenerate and rejuvenate all parts of the body.

During a fast, the body lives off glucose stored in the liver for the first day, and then breaks down non-essential body protein and fats thereafter.  These are converted to glucose for energy.  When the body starts living off itself, damaged and decomposing cells are destroyed first, while vital organs are never digested or damaged.  Fasting is a wonderful "garbage disposal" system, and is the first line of defence against diseases like cancer and arthritis.  The digestive system is rested, and its function greatly enhanced after the fast.  Metabolism is markedly altered for the better by a juice fast, as is shown by a proper weight maintenance once food intake is returned to normal.
Besides weight loss from a higher metabolism, juice fasting has many other benefits.  For years, juice fasts have been used to cure arthritis, heart conditions, diabetes, toxic poisoning, psoriasis, eczema, depression, and acute pancreatitis.  The list of conditions improved by juice fasting is endless: cancer, kidney and liver abscesses, nephritis, congestive heart failure, and allergies are just a few.  Overall, the immune system is greatly improved, and the aging process can be delayed (by preventing cellular degeneration).  Although juice fasting can be used for up to six months in complete safety, even one week is of great value.
