Diarrhea may also be brought on by
a course of antibiotics, once you have finished the course eat plently
of live yogurt to replace beneficient gut microflora, or take Acidophilus capsules. Avoid eating fruit, apart from apples, blueberries or billberries.
When diarrhea is occasional rather than chronic,
it is simply your bodies natural defence system working efficiently to
throw out toxic matter as fast as possible. The best herbal
remedies assist this action while soothing local pain and inflammation.
Agrimony is
tonic and astringent. Add a teaspoonful of the herb to a cupful
of boiling water, infuse for 10 minutes and allow to cool. Drink
a wineglassful every two hours.
Try a couple of pieces of Cinnamon Bark (Left) simmered in 300ml (1/2 pint) of water for 20 minutes, sweetened with a little honey. Sip slowly from time to time.
Marshmallow Root: an ounce of the powdered root simmered for 20
minutes in 600 ml (1 pint) of water produces a thick mucilage which can
be sweetened with a little honey and spiced with a dash of Cinnamon
powder to make it drinkable. It soothes and heals fast.
Meadowsweet tea, made with a teaspoon of the dried herb infused for 10 minutes in a cupful of not-quite-boiling water, is also useful.
