Athlete's foot is
caused and spread by a little burrowing fungus which loves the warm
moist skin between your toes. It thrives in locker rooms and gym
changing rooms. Wearing socks or shoes made of sweaty synthetics
and not drying properly between your toes encourage it to settle in for
a long stay. To avoid it, keep your feet clean and dry, wear all
cotton socks, and leather or canvas shoes. There are a number of ways to get rid of athlete's foot:
Herbal Remedies For Athlete's Foot
Tea tree oil is a powerful antifungal, especially effective for
athlete's foot. Paint the oil directly on to the affected areas
two or three times a day but patch-test a drop of the oil first, on
bare skin, to make sure your skin won't react to it. Lavender and Thyme
are two other essential oils that can help. Try dissolving the
oil you use in a little vodka to help dry the area. Use a drop of
oil to a teaspoon of vodka.
Thyme can
also be used in the form of a strong infusion, if you have some growing
in your garden or window box. Steep a good handful in 600ml of
boiling water, covered, for 10 minutes, then bathe the feet in
it. Rosemary can be used the same way.
Make a fairly strong tea from Goldenseal Root and swab between your toes.
